Saxophones – Start Band with Beginner Band Student Saxes
There are 4 types of saxes; Soprano (Bb), Alto (Eb), Tenor (Bb) and Bari (Eb). All saxophones use the same key system therefore the fingerings or the way you play notes, is the same with all of them. However, the alto and tenor are the standard saxophones and easiest to get a sound out of when you are a new player. These styles look very similar. The alto being the smaller size; the tenor being the larger of the two.
The most popular beginning student sax is the Eb Alto Sax. For larger stature students or advanced players the next choice is the Bb Tenor Sax. Saxes are played with the left hand closest to the top. The right hand covers the lower keys. Some student models are produced with range to high F; other are produced with the additional high F# key. Saxophone packages include mouthpiece, reeds, ligature, sax neck strap and case.
